Staffbase acquires Valo Solutions to extend communications solution to Microsoft 365

Corporate communications company Staffbase has acquired Finland-based Valo Solutions for an undisclosed amount.

Founded in Germany in 2014, Staffbase offers a mobile-first platform for employee communication. According to the company, it powers its servers exclusively with electricity generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, or water.

“Staffbase and Valo unite to make a difference in the way people experience work.”

According to Staffbase, the acquisition of Valo will see the integration of Staffbase’s employee communication systems with Valo’s workplace solutions for Microsoft 365.

“Staffbase and Valo unite to make a difference in the way people experience work by providing a world-class employee communication and engagement platform for Microsoft 365 users,” the company said. “The joint offering will empower organizations to deliver timely, impactful communication to their employees anywhere, anytime, on any device.”

Staffbase merged with Kelowna, British-Columbia’s Bananatag in March, operating the combined companies under the Staffbase brand. Bananatag, which began as email tracking software, grew into an internal communications platform used by over 600 organizations before merging with Staffbase.

The merger broadened Staffbase’s platform to include email, employee app, intranet, chat, and deep integrations with Slack and Microsoft 365, including Teams and SharePoint. It now serves as an internal communications platform for 1,000 businesses around the world with 450 employees across North America and Europe.

The company has offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, New York, London, Amsterdam, and Germany. The company’s clients include Adidas, Audi, Groupon, Hitachi, Ikea, Johns Hopkins University, Suncor, and Volvo, among others.

Staffbase also acquired fellow Germany-based company Teambay in October 2020, backed by $12 million in funding from existing partners Insight Partners, e.ventures, Capnamic Ventures, and Kizoo Technology Capital.

In April, Staffbase raised a $145 million Series D round led by General Atlantic. Insight Partners and e.ventures also participated in the round.
